This article is a little misleading and needs more context.

Sumo’s templates, which have been exclusively tied to their pro features, have been recently added to their free plans ( as of 2017).

Regardless, when it comes to templates, whether it’s Optin Monster, Sumo, or Thrive Leads, best practice is to customize your templates with your own pictures and copy.

Sumo has generic templates for users to work off of as does OptinMonster. If you’re using any generic template, the opt-ins are going to be drastically lower.
